About Us
| Butter Maid Bakery has been a small family owned and operated bakery since 1955, and is now your homemade cookie company online - backed by 7+ years experience shipping baked goods. It's all about bringing together the best and freshest ingredients we can find, and taking the extra time and care to bake with them the old fashioned way. Just like our parents and grandparents baked, our products are hand made from scratch in small batches. We use flour, sugar, and our farm fresh eggs, sweet cream butter, & milk are from a local family (no-hormone added) dairy farm. We use what you would consider real food...
And let's talk more about butter... As you would expect from the name, we use real butter. No blends that call themselves butter. Blends contain cheap vegetable oils such as margerine and shortening, which are almost always "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated". They are otherwise known as the harmful "trans fats" you hear about, and they have no business being in any baked good! Great products start with the best ingredients, and "It's Better Made If It's Butter Maid". Baking in the Naumoff family goes back at least four generations. Dimitri Naumoff was a baker at a neighborhood bakery in Europe before coming to America in the early 1900’s. After arriving in America, he worked at Steelton Bakery on Steel Street, in Youngstown, Ohio. The Steelton Bakery was also a neighborhood bakery, which provided home deliveries. Home delivery of bread was crucial during the depression. Dimitri’s son, Nicholas Charles, worked at the Steelton Bakery as well. In 1955, Nicholas sold his shares of Steelton Bakery and opened Butter Maid Bakery. Butter Maid Bakery opened for business July 21, 1955 in the Boardman Plaza in Boardman, Ohio. Our original store front sign is shown in the picture above. We were one of the first tenants in the first major shopping center developed by the DeBartolo Corporation. Butter Maid Bakery has been family owned and operated since it opened in 1955. We still make the same old fashioned, homemade products in small batches. In 1984, Nicholas Jr. and James (sons of Nicholas Charles and Mary) moved Butter Maid Bakery from the Boardman Plaza to the Southern Park Mall. We opened in the mall featuring our most popular products from the past. Today Nick Jr, James, and his son Jeff still make these products at Butter Maid Bakery. For over 100 years our products have been made the old fashioned way with the best ingredients we can find. In 2006, we were proud to open for business online, offering the majority of our products here. We are happy to easily reach our out of town customers, and to find new ones!
