Four Generations of Success
|
The baking expertise of the Naumoff family began with Dimitri Naumoff, baking at a neighborhood bakery in Europe before coming to America in the early 1900’s. After arriving in America, he worked at Steelton Bakery on Steel Street, in Youngstown, Ohio. The Steelton Bakery was also a neighborhood bakery, which provided home deliveries. Home delivery of bread was crucial during the depression. Dimitri’s son, Nicholas Charles, worked at the Steelton Bakery as well. In 1955, Nicholas sold his shares of Steelton Bakery and opened Butter Maid Bakery.
Butter Maid Bakery opened for business July 21, 1955 in the Boardman Plaza in Boardman, Ohio. It was one of the first tenants in the first shopping center developed by the DeBartolo Corporation. Butter Maid Bakery has been family owned and operated since it opened in 1955. We still make the same old fashioned, homemade products – nothing mass produced or filled with additives or preservatives. In 1984, Nicholas Jr. and James moved Butter Maid Bakery from the Boardman Plaza to the Southern Park Mall. We opened in the mall featuring our most popular products from the past.

Today Nick Jr, Jim, and his son Jeff still make these products at the Southern Park Mall and Mall at Robinson. All of our products are made with high quality ingredients and great care. This has enabled us to stay in the business for over 100 years. In 2006, we were proud to open this online store, offering the majority of our products here. We are happy to easily reach our out of town customers, and to find new ones!
