Description

Try our new and improved Kolachi Cookies!

(A smaller version of our large rolls. May also be available in their close cousin the Italian Nut Horn.)

This roll is made with our fresh homemade dough & walnut filling. Each roll weighs a minimum of 1.5 lbs (24oz), almost twice the size of some of our competitors.

Quality Ingredients
Our nut rolls are homemade from scratch in small batches, just like our Grandparents did!  We use ingredients you can pronounce - eggs, flour, sugar, and of course... butter! What you would consider real food.  No artificial ingredients, fillers, additives, or preservatives. Great baked goods start with the best ingredients, and there is no substitute for the flavor of real butter!

More Filling Please!
Have you ever cut a nut roll in half and wondered where the filling is? Is it nothing but bread? Making every roll as if we were going to eat it, we like more filling than dough... so that's exactly how we make them! By weight, there is actually more filling in each roll than dough! This makes it very soft and moist, never dry. Walnuts are actually the number one ingredient! We grind fresh walnuts to make our filling. The walnuts are ground straight into our mixing bowl. They don't come in already ground, or sit around and dry out. They are made into filling, spread on dough, and off to the oven.

And let's talk more about Butter...
As you would expect from the name, we use real butter. No blends that call themselves butter. Blends contain cheap vegetable oils such as margarine and shortening, which are almost always "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated". They are otherwise known as the very harmful "trans fats" you hear about, and they have no business being in any nut roll! You've probably heard all the bad about margerine and shortening, but we bet you didn't know that real butter contains vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that protect against heart disease and cancer.

Storage
All rolls come vacuum sealed. This makes a great difference keeping the rolls as fresh as possible. We know some customers cringe when they hear "freezer" in the same sentence with baked goods, but... Since no chemical additives or preservatives are in our rolls, freezing is the best natural preservative. They may be stored in the freezer for up to a year if vacuum sealed, and up to 6 months if not vacuum sealed but wrapped well.  Compare to a high processed commercial roll, containing preservatives to keep them fresh. What are you keeping fresh? They are filled with very little real flavor, heavy on fillers, artificial flavors & colors - to make them look and taste like real food.

Origin
Nut roll is a generic name for our rolls. There are many names and spellings mentioned below.  There's a good chance you were looking for one of them. Depending on origin, you may have heard them called - traditional / home style / homestyle / homemade / home made / old fashioned / old fashion / holiday / easter / christmas / xmas / new years / wedding - nut roll / rolls / nut bread / kolachi / kolachy / kolachky / kolache / beigli / potica / poticas / gubana / orechovnik / makowiec / povitica / poviticas / gibanica / orahnjaÄa / orahnjaca / guban'ca / lekvarostekercs / vojvodina / strudel / gugelhupf / gugelhopf / ethnic / hungarian / slovak / slavic / slovenian / croatian / serbian / polish / czech / swiss / german / austrian cake / central european / americanized / american / buchteln / buchtel / wuchtel / ofennudel / rohrnudel / einback / austro-bavarian rohrnudl / buchtl / wuchtl / heffakejchla / buchta / salted / sweet yeast dough / jelly roll / log / loaf / crazy loaf / overnight cakes. Delicious nut roll.
I grew up in Pittsburgh with a Slovak mother who made delicious nut rolls. She is no longer with us and for many years I tried to find nut rolls that were as good. Thank you Butter Maid. The search is over. I sent some to my sisters who have placed their own orders already. A new holiday tradition is born.
These nut rolls were terrific. My grandson is in the marines in Afghanistan so my next order will be the chocolate chip cookies. Thank you Butter Maid!

Just like Mom used to make.
I recently ordered one of these nut rolls for my sister in New York, since she was missing the ones our mom used to make at Christmastime. Our mom passed away January of this year. When she received it in the mail, she called me. "Guess what' she said. "I took a bite, closed my eyes and I could see Mommy right in front of me with a big smile on her face. It tasted just like hers." I was so happy that she enjoyed it, that I decided to buy the 3 pack for Arizona, since there are 3 of us out here and thought it would be like having mom with us at Christmas again. I'll write again when I've tasted it myself. Happy Holidays!

Nut Roll
You have made my thanksgiving!!! I grew up in Madison, Pa. And holiday time was nut roll time. All the church ladies made and sold these. We would stock up the freezer with these wonderful rolls.
In NY no one knows how to made them!!! They are dry and have no filling.
With family coming I went to the internet and found you. Chosen because you are a Pa. bakery. You were the right choice!!!!
Your nut rolls are wonderful moist and rich in butter and flavor. And there is tons of filling in each bite. Even the ends!!!!! Love love love. Thank you for my childhood memory!!!!

apricot kolachi
Order 2166
Love love love...I am very pickie about these cookies. I grew up in western Pa and know the best. You have gone beyond!!! The dough is sweet and buttery full of flavor and the filling is full!!1 Lots of apricots and sweetened just right not like sugary jelly. Still has the true apricot tang and tartness. And you don't skimp in filling they are full. It might sound corny but they melt in your mouth!!! Even the sugar topping just right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a ten out of 10

chocolate chip cookies
I placed my first order of chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter. It was the best cookies I had ever ate. It has a sweet taste to them that I enjoy very much. I like to have a few after a good dinner meal. I will be placing more orders, probably once a month.

Happy Customer
I am originally from Campbell, Ohio. I've lived in Texas for 30 years. I was so happy when I came across Butter Maid. I decided to try some Kolachi, it is delicious. It came all the way from Ohio and tasted like it was baked the same day. I will continue to order from Butter Maid. - Angela G., Irving TX

Bought the nut rolls (original) for Easter. Like probably many of your customers, my mother used to make these rolls for the holidays, Christmas and Easter. Mom's nut rolls used to have more bread between the nuts but your nut rolls taste very similar. I was impressed with the delivery and packaging. The nut rolls came to us in a very timely manner in a plastic container with the nut rolls sealed in plastic. My family enjoyed the nut rolls
for Easter 2012. The nut rolls were a tradition as I was growing up so the nut rolls are a must for the holidays. Thanks again for a fine product. Blessings and Happy Easter !!

Making Soldiers Very Happy
I've sent two orders of cookies overseas to a soldier in Afghanistan and both orders arrived well packed and DELICIOUS! He said that he shared them with friends and everyone loved them. Thank you so much for putting so much love into your cookies and packaging them so they get their safely - it really made their day getting homemade treats!

Friends hooked
I have given your nutroll to our friends in Las Vegas. The husband Butch grew up in Beaver Falls and we all agree the rolls are just like our mothers made years ago. They will be ordering from you and I just received my 6th or 7th order. keep them coming.
Suggestion-we have found that placing the roll in the over @ 350 for 15 minutes does great as it seems as if shipping may be done when rolls are still warm and may seem a little unbaked.
