Description
Also try our Kolachi Cookies, a smaller version of our large rolls. Their close cousin, the Italian Nut Horn, may also be available.
This roll is made with our fresh hand made dough & walnut filling. "Nut Roll" is the generic term for what we call Kolachi, which comes in many flavors. However, this is only correct when refering to the flavor of walnut - therefore this walnut kolachi roll is "The Original" as listed. Confused yet? Sorry, lol. Each roll weighs a minimum of 1.5 lbs (24oz), almost twice the size of some of our competitors.
Quality Ingredients
All of our baked goods are hand made from scratch in small batches, just like our Grandparents did. We use ingredients you can pronounce - eggs, flour, sugar, and of course... real butter! What you would consider real food. No artificial ingredients, fillers, additives, or preservatives. Great baked goods start with the best ingredients, and there is no substitute for the flavor that real butter produces in baked goods!
More Filling Please!
Have you ever cut a roll in half and wondered where the filling is? Is it nothing but bread? Making every roll as if we were going to eat it, we like more filling than dough... so that's exactly how we make them! By weight, there is actually more filling in each roll than dough! This makes them very soft and moist, never dry. Walnuts are actually the number one ingredient! We grind fresh walnuts to make our filling. The walnuts are ground straight into our mixing bowl. They don't come in already ground, or sit around and dry out. They are made into filling, spread on dough, and off to the oven.
NEW - Approved For Military Shipment!
The Nut Rolls are now part of our Military APO/FPO Collection! How do the rolls keep the overseas journey? That's a very good question... It's a similar concept to our very rich Gourmet Cookies that we send to soldiers. As mentioned above, our nut rolls have more filling than dough, making them extremely rich. The combination of the rich rolls and vacuum sealing them air-tight, keep the rolls fresh for over a month. Prior to joining our Military APO/FPO Collection, we sent hundreds of nut rolls to soldiers by request, with excellent feedback. At that point, it only made sense to test them on our end. They will not be available for shipment to Military regions of the world during extreme heat. We check the weather at every address prior to shipment, and will notify you if we foresee an issue. Have any concerns? Please Contact Us here with your soldiers military address, and we're more than happy to help!
And let's talk more about Butter...
As you would expect from the name, we use real butter. No blends that call themselves butter. Blends contain cheap vegetable oils such as margarine and shortening, which are almost always "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated". They are otherwise known as the harmful "trans fats" you hear about, and they have no business being in any baked good! You've probably heard all the bad about margerine and shortening, but we bet you didn't know that real butter contains vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that may protect against heart disease and cancer.
Storage
All rolls come vacuum sealed, and this makes a tremendous difference keeping them fresh. Some cringe when they hear "freezer" in the same sentence with baked goods, but... Since no chemical additives or preservatives are in our products, freezing is the best natural preservative. Do not refrigerate these kolachi rolls. They may be stored in the freezer for up to a year if vacuum sealed, and up to 6 months if not vacuum sealed but wrapped well. Compare to high processed commercial products, which contain preservatives to keep them fresh. What are you keeping fresh? Commercial products are filled with very little real flavor, heavy on fillers, artificial flavors & colors - to make them look and taste like real food.

Making Soldiers Very Happy
Friends hooked
Suggestion-we have found that placing the roll in the over @ 350 for 15 minutes does great as it seems as if shipping may be done when rolls are still warm and may seem a little unbaked.
Delicious nut roll.
These nut rolls were terrific. My grandson is in the marines in Afghanistan so my next order will be the chocolate chip cookies. Thank you Butter Maid!

Nut Roll
In NY no one knows how to made them!!! They are dry and have no filling.
With family coming I went to the internet and found you. Chosen because you are a Pa. bakery. You were the right choice!!!!
Your nut rolls are wonderful moist and rich in butter and flavor. And there is tons of filling in each bite. Even the ends!!!!! Love love love. Thank you for my childhood memory!!!!
apricot kolachi
Love love love...I am very pickie about these cookies. I grew up in western Pa and know the best. You have gone beyond!!! The dough is sweet and buttery full of flavor and the filling is full!!1 Lots of apricots and sweetened just right not like sugary jelly. Still has the true apricot tang and tartness. And you don't skimp in filling they are full. It might sound corny but they melt in your mouth!!! Even the sugar topping just right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a ten out of 10
